Let’s be honest, the only real competition to Maggi noodles growing up has been Wai Wai. Whether it’s hot and brothy or a dry snack straight out of the packet on your bus ride home from school, Wai Wai has a special place in our childhoods.
The instant noodle company created a lot of excitement last year with the setup of Wai Wai City, the first of its kind noodle bar in Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi, but that was only the beginning of a chain of noodle bars that have been announced to roll out across the nation, as well as on an international scale. “We intend to roll out 100 outlets, 50 in India and 50 elsewhere in the world,” stated Varun Chaudhary, Executive Director of CG Corp Global, the company that owns Wai Wai.
Well, CG Foods’ plan seems to be coming to fruition with a new announcement involving a plan to invest INR 250 crore in India to open quick service restaurants within the next five years. Now with 1,500 Wai Wai City noodle bars set to pop up across the world in the form of kiosks, standalone outlets, food courts, and other formats, it still remains unclear exactly how many of those 1500 will be seen in India itself. Chaudhary commented, “With this new format, we offer…whole new world of taste and flavours. For us this is the beginning of an exciting journey.”
Wai Wai is definitely on a path to seriously up its game it seems, and we’re going to be on the look out for the nearest Wai Wai City for some delicious treats.
